How Geothermal in Maryland Benefits You
A new law that passed in Maryland has enacted quarterly cash payments to homeowners for geothermal installs for at least the next 8 years, known as REC Credits (Renewable Energy Credits). This can result in paying off your geothermal installation way faster than a generic HVAC system replacement. You can receive anywhere from $1,000-$4,000 per year in cash.
Aside from the quarterly cash payments, Maryland also offers a state rebate for your investment of $3,000 and no sales tax!
In addition to being paid back by the Maryland Government, you also receive a 30% tax credit through 2032. There is no limit to this credit or number of times that it can be claimed.
Aside from being paid by both the Maryland State Government and the U.S. Federal Government, you also receive rebates from your Utility company, and these rebates have recently increased in size. You can get up to $3,000-$6,000 per unit!

You will need to enroll for your payments on Clearpath's website directly with the following information below:
- the square footage of your home, including the basement (you can find this on your tax assessment website of your county)
- The age of your existing system
- The age of your home
- The type of energy you were using before geothermal for heating and cooling
- The approximate date of your geothermal installation
